Ajinkya Rahane is a fighter on the field and much of India’s fortunes in days to come will depend on how he fares. In an interview with BCCI’s official website, Rahane revealed that if he wasn’t a cricketer he would have been an Air Force officer. Rahane’s would have surely been a great one. His fighting spirit embodied in the statement when he was asked about a childhood memory that is still fresh in his mind. He said, “I got hit on the head by a bouncer. Immediately after that I got five boundaries in a row.”

Rahane also said that his favourite cricketers were Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid — two of India’s greatest cricketers. Dravid has mentored Rahane in the Rajasthan Royals camp. When asked about his best friends from the cricket world, he named Rohit Sharma, Dhawal Kulkarni and Umesh Yadav. His mantra in life is something that anyone who has followed him will agree that he has by-hearted it, “Keep it simple and respect everyone.”

Rahane recently wrote his name in the record books when he became the first first man to pouch eight catches. He later told PTI, “ He [Dravid] told me that focus and concentration were really important things. In Tests sometimes the ball will not come for a long time and suddenly you have to grab that one chance that comes.
