India-Pakistan bilateral series cancelled: Twitter reactions
After so many weeks of speculations and much to the dismay of avid fans, it was confirmed on Wednesday evening that the bilateral series between India and Pakistan will not play the limited-overs series, which was expected to be held from December 24 to January 5, 2016. The last time these two sides were engaged in a bilateral contest it was played in India in December 2012-January 2013.
The Indian and Pakistani cricket teams were expected to play a three-match One-Day International (ODI) and two-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series in Sri Lanka. The BCCI had earlier not allowed its team to play in the UAE, where Pakistan play their home matches.
India’s Minister of External Affair, Sushma Swaraj is on her visit to Pakistan and there were hopes of resumption of cricketing ties between these two sides. No cricket was discussed. However Dawn quoted Shaharyar Khan as saying, “We were hoping for some positive development finally but it is very disappointing that cricket was not discussed in the meeting between the Indian Foreign Minister and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The prospects of organising a series now seem very bleak and we stand to lose at least $50 million under the current scenario.”
There were lot of extreme reactions on Twitter for the same.
