Indian cricket fan in UP dies of heart attack during India-Bangladesh ICC World T20 thriller

There were anxious moments aplenty as fans across the world were gripped to this nail-biter. India fans did get a chance to rejoice but it ended on a tragic note for the Shukla household. According to reports, Om Prakash Shukla, an elderly man from Bistauli village in Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, died of heart attack during the last overs of Bangladesh’s run chase on Wednesday night.

He was watching the match on television and complained of severe chest pain after Bangladesh’s wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim hit two consecutive boundaries off Hardik Pandya in the last over. Bangladesh were at a stage when they needed two runs from three balls.

Three wickets fell in the next three balls and India sealed the game by a run but Shukla died shortly after. A report from Hindustan Times mentions that for many years, he ran a grocery store in Delhi before settling down in Gorakhpur. Shukla is survived by three sons.
