Chennai Super Kings (CSK) begin their Indian Premiere League (IPL) 2015 campaign against Delhi Daredevils (DD) at Chidambaram Stadium today. In a stadium, which has been a fortress for the men in yellow, Daredevils have to play quality cricket in order to win this tough encounter. CSK is one of the teams which have retained their core since the start of the IPL, whereas DD once again wear a complete new look.
For CSK, the veteran Australian Michael Hussey is back in the team after a dismal year with Mumbai Indians (MI). With Brendon McCullum in some spectacular form, there can be some issues for the opening pair with hard-hitting Dwayne Smith another candidate for the opener spot. Skipper MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Faf du Plessis and Dwayne Bravo form the backbone of the batting.
In the bowling department, CSK have roped in Baroda all-rounder Irfan Pathan but will miss him in the first game due to an injury. In his place, Ashish Nehra is set to step up and will form a pace trio along with Mohit Sharma and Ishwar Pandey. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are the spinners in the unit and should hold on to their claims. They have also brought Rahul Sharma, but it is a concern whether he will get a chance to feature with spinner Pawan Negi also in the side.
Delhi Daredevils have made a lot of reinforcements after two poor seasons. Coach Gary Kirsten will look to turn the tide this time with compatriot JP Duminy selected as the skipper. Daredevils have gone for experience and have signed Yuvraj Singh and Zaheer Khan. Yuvraj was snapped up by a whopping 16 crore and his presence will add strength in the middle-order. Mayank Agarwal and Quinton De Kock will be the openers with Saurabh Tiwary, Manoj Tiwary and Kedar Jadhav as middle-order options.
In the pace attack, Zaheer will again look to deliver the goods and will be a perfect guidance for budding Indian pacers Mohammad Shami and Jaydev Unadkat. The spin department also looks good with the inclusion of Amit Mishra, as he has been one of the successful bowlers in the IPL history. The wily South African Imran Tahir had a dream ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 and Daredevils will hope to see his magic in this tourney.
With the match at Chepauk, it looks like CSK will be drawing the blood first, given the fact that they are a balanced side. For many it’s a Dhoni versus Yuvraj clash and we present you with the pick of the tweets.
