IPL 2015: Kieron Pollards tapes his mouth after umpire tells him to shut up
Kieron Pollard is a character. It seems that he has made it a point to make his outings against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), truly memorable. Last year, he and Mitchell Starc came close to almost exchange blows but this time he made sure that he rubbed the umpire wrong way.
West Indian cricketers add a lot of colour to the sport and Chris Gayle and Kieron Pollard are truly two such characters. Chasing Mumbai Indians’ (MI) huge total of 210, RCB had got off to a slow start. Gayle found it hard to play Lasith Malinga and played out a maiden over. Pollard decided to have a few words with his West Indian teammate Gayle, who was now batting for the rival camp. The umpire didn’t really feel that was necessary and had a word with Pollard, which irked the later.
It’s common for the West Indian cricketers to have the banter going on while playing against each other and given the fact that Gayle and Pollard share strong bond, this was probably a friendly chat. The Trinidadian was livid with the fact that the umpire had asked him to shut up and decided to obey the umpire’s orders in his own way. He went ahead and taped his mouth!
In fact, he removed the tape when he had to talk to his teammates and later put it back to make a statement to the umpire that he wasn’t sledging. At the end of the 12th over, RCB were 95 for three.
