The eighth edition of the Indian Premiere League (IPL) commences today with defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) taking on Mumbai Indians (MI) at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
The clash between India western metro and the eastern metro has always drawn fans to the ground, and this promises to be a no less affair. The previous year saw KKR winning both the matches, the first in Abu Dhabi and the next game at Wankhede Stadium. But, this time things look to pan out differently with MI making some really good acquisitions in the 2015 IPL auctions.
For KKR, the return of Sunil Narine brings a big boost to the team, as he single-handedly won them the matches in the past. But the question remains that will he be as effective with a changed bowling action? The unveiling of million-dollar baby KC Cariappa can take place with the team to go all out with spin. The Orange Cap winner of the previous edition, Robin Uthappa will look to continue from where he had left as he gets desperate to get back in the national side. The team will again be marshalled by Gautam Gambhir with Manish Pandey, Yusuf Pathan and Suryakumar Yadav to be the mainstay in the batting order.
MI has snapped up some Twenty20 (T20) specialists to bolster their squad with Rohit Sharma their skipper, who will try again to replicate the century he had hit in this ground few seasons back. They have signed the dangerous Aaron Finch and New Zealand’s left-arm pacer Mitchell McGleneghan. Swashbuckling Corey Anderson will look to replicate his fine World Cup form. Kieron Pollard will look to deliver the goods again along with Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh, who loves performing at this venue.
On paper, both the teams are balanced but with Eden Gardens the venue, the home team looks to be the favourites to win. We present you with the pick of the tweets.
