IPL effect: Sam Billings sweeps an 87.1 mph delivery from Tino Best out of the park

The advent of Twenty20 (T20) cricket has brought about a host of changes in the way batting is approached these days. Most batsmen world over do not shy from playing bold, unconventional shots these days. A lot of credit for this new batting approach has often been attributed to the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Recently, England cricketer Sam Billings, who made his IPL debut earlier this year during the ninth season of the tournament, smacked an unbelievable shot to a fast delivery bowled by West Indian pacer Tino Best during a Natwest T20 Blast game. He played a sweep shot — which is usually played against spinners or slow bowlers — to an 87.3 mph delivery. Interestingly, the ball went out of the park. Check the vine of that shot posted by a Twitter user here:

Later, the official Twitter handle of Natwest T20 Blast also tweeted the short clip of the shot played by Billings with a caption that read: “Did you learn this one in the @IPL @sambillings?! #ridiculous”

With T20 cricket getting more and more popular day by day, brace yourself to see more such shots being played on a regular basis.
