Former India captain Kapil Dev on Wednesday praised Yuvraj Singh and went to the extent of comparing the southpaw with sports legends John McEnroe and Diego Maradona. “Yuvraj Singh is an exciting cricketer. He is a genuine crowd-puller. Just like you wanted to see John McEnroe or Diego Maradona. People came to watch them in action. Yuvraj is that sort of a player,” Kapil said during a promotional event.

The 34-year-old recently made a stunning comeback to the Twenty20 International (T20I) team for the Australia tour after a good outing in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. Yuvraj was instrumental in India’s recent World Cup wins in 2007 and 2011, where he was the Man-of-the-Series for his all-round show. However, he didn’t have a good time with the team when he last played in the 2014 edition of the World T20. His 21-ball 11 in the final cost India the trophy and him a place in the side.

Kapil also praised former captain Sourav Ganguly, a bit awkwardly though. He said that the inspirational skipper instilled the confidence of winning in Australia within the team despite being a Bengali. Kapil suggested that Bengalis are soft-spoken and well-behaved, absolutely contrary to how the Australians are; rude and aggressive. So, it was commendable on Ganguly’s part to be an attacking leader on the field despite being a Bengali. Wonder what Ganguly’s take would be on Kapil’s opinion.
