Charismatic English cricketer Kevin Pietersen has the ability to turn heads both inside and outside the park. The dashing batsman, who has a knack of picking up controversies, has shared a fair bit of adulation as well as criticism during his career. The out-of-favour Pietersen, whose England career is virtually over, made news when he smashed 355 not out for Surrey against Leicestershire earlier this year, prompting calls for his England recall. The innings was particularly timely as the declaration of Ashes squad was just around the corner. Hence, expectedly, the innings got him an appointment with Strauss.

However, the meeting didn’t go as expected. “I went there with a lot of positivity and left with quite a bit of negativity,” Pietersen was quoted saying this to delegation of 200 at a Sports Industry Breakfast Club meeting on Thursday, as reported by firstpost.com.

“At the time I thought it was ridiculous, it was nonsense to leave me out. I might have said something stronger to him,” added Pietersen.

But the star later added that Strauss’ decision was vindicated as England won the Ashes. “He had a decision to make and he made his decision and it turned out absolutely fine. England won the Ashes,” said Pietersen.
