Over in Australia, Virat Kohli was involved in a row with journalists while back in India, two Mumbai players have been issued showcause notice for alleged misbehaviour. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) issued the notice to Mumbai batsmen Suryakumar Yadav and Sarfaraz Khan. As a result the MCA has not included them in the list of 25 probables for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the domestic T20 tournament.

In an unusual circumstance, it is said that Surya had a telephonic conversation with his Mumbai teammate, where he used foul language which was directed at the MCA officials. The fast bowler recorded the conversation which the MCA officials listened to. Surya, earlier in the Ranji Trophy, had quit Mumbai’s captaincy. He plays for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Another player, Sarfaraz who is an under-19 World Cup team member, would have been banned earlier but received a temporary respite because his first innings score of 78 in the semifinal of the under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy versus Rajasthan had helped Mumbai reach the final.

The incident happened during the semifinal when Sarfaraz had pointed his bat in the direction of the MCA’s junior selectors in an ‘inappropriate manner’. “MCA office-bearers wanted to drop him immediately from the Under-19 team, but as he was a match-winner and the team was in the final, they waited till the tournament was over,” an MCA source said, as reported by The Indian Express.

Sarfaraz then scored 120 in the final against Punjab, as Mumbai won by virtue of a first-inning lead. “They both have been issued show cause notices and MCA disciplinary committee will decide their fate. They have been excluded for Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 probables list,” the MCA source added.
