Mohammad Azharuddin, Emran Hashmi in Derby for biopic shoot
Bollywood star Emraan Hashmi steps into the shoes of former Indian skipper Mohammad Azharuddin in the latter’s biopic, titled Azhar.

Itâs one of the most awaited cricket biopics and is slated for a May 2016 release. Bollywood star Emraan Hashmi steps into the shoes of former Indian skipper Mohammad Azharuddin in the latterâs biopic, titled Azhar. As reported by Derbyshire cricket website, the filming will take place in between August 26 and 29 at Derbyshireâs The 3aaa County Ground. The film is directed by Tony DâSouza.
Azharuddin, who is now a politician in India, enjoyed success as an Indian cricketer, however his career ended in the wake of match-fixing controversy that broke out in 2000.
The stylish right-hander enjoyed successful spells with Derbyshire in 1991 and 1994. In 1991, he scored 2016 runs at 59.29 in First-Class matches. Three years later, he notched up 712 runs at 44.50. However that stint was cut short due to his India assignments. by a recall to the India Test side. Azharuddin himself has joined the shooting team and a report in Bollywood Hungama quoted actor Hashmi saying, âI called Azhar up and formally invited him to join us here. Incidentally, we now plan to shoot our cricketing portions when Azhar is here. It is always good to shoot under an expert eye and who better to guide us than the man himself.â
