MS Dhoni penalised for criticising umpire’s decision

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) took on Mumbai Indians (MI) on Tuesday in the qualifier one and endured a defeat by 25 runs. Later, skipper MS Dhoni showed his frustration post match and was fined 10 per cent of his match fee for “inappropriate public comments” to an umpire’s decision.

According to a report from NDTV.com, Dhoni referred to Dwayne Smith’s dismissal as ‘horrible’ decision from umpire Richard Illingworth.

While chasing a big total of 188, CSK opener Smith was adjudged leg before after being struck on the pads off a full-toss from Lasith Malinga in the very first over. Replays showed that ball would have gone down the leg side by some margin, making the decision a poor one.

The CSK skipper is believed to have admitted the level 1 offence (Article 2.1.7 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials) and accepted the sanction.

Despite losing against MI, CSK will have another chance to make it to the finals, when they face the winner of Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), in the second qualifier in Ranchi on Friday.
