MS Dhoni, Sourav Ganguly and other sportspersons help raise 14 Lakh for charity

Indian cricketers are often seen doing noble works for charity and have always come forward in support of such things. Recently, team’s Test captain Virat Kohli had organised a charity gala dinner for the uplift of underprivileged kids where many other cricketers and famous personalities of the nation came. After that, another news came on cricketers coming together for charity. As reported by IANS, an amount of INR 14 lakh was raised by an auction where MS Dhoni and other sportspersons donated their sports gear in order to support cancer patient Bapi Majhi and family of deceased Alip Chakraborty. Majhi will undergo treatment for liver cancer with the help of amount collected from the auction while a certain part of the amount will be given to the wife of Chakraborty, who passed away from throat cancer.

The auction was organised by a Kolkata-based media group. In all, 31 items were in auction, which included Ajinkya Rahane’s autographed India jersey, Dhoni’s wicketkeeping gloves and pads and Bangladesh cricketer Shakib Al Hasan’s signed bat. Apart from Rahane, former cricketer VVS Laxman, Brad Hogg, Manish Pandey and Indian women’s cricket team’s pacer Jhulan Goswami contributed with their jerseys, while former captain Sourav Ganguly too contributed in this auction. Also Read: Kohli, Sehwag and other cricketers congratulate Saina Nehwal on Australian Open Super Series win

Indian football team’s goalkeeper Gurpreet Sandhu donated his signed goalkeeping gloves, while captain Sunil Chhetri and Jeje Lalpheklhua have also given their jerseys. Leander Paes was also another sportsperson to be involved in this auction as he donated his racquets’ sets, which went for INR 1.5 lakh along with Dhoni’s gloves for INR 1 Lakh and his pads for INR 50,000. Total amount of INR 14 lakh was raised through this auction.
