New Zealand Cricket trolls Kane Williamson, Trent Boult; Fans also get into the act

There are both boons and banes of playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL). While the players get a handsome amount of money from their franchises, at the same time they are made to do a certain things for the team sponsors, which at times can get awkward. New Zealand cricket stars Kane Williamson and Trent Boult experienced the same recently.

Being a part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) franchise, the duo was made to pose for a photo-shoot apparently for an apparel brand, which happens to be SRH’s sponsor. New Zealand captain Williamson and ace paceman Boult were made to wear funky floral attires along with the likes of Australian David Warner and Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan. SRH posted the images from their official Twitter handle:

When New Zealand Cricket (NZC) posted these images from their official Facebook page ‘Blackaps’, there was almost an outpour of reactions from the fans, who began trolling their favourite cricketers. The images were posted with the caption: “New Zealand’s Next Top Model: Who gets your vote for the most dapper dresser out of Trent Boult and Kane Williamson? Extra points to Kane for the model lean #‎thisoldthing #‎pantsaredoingabit #‎sticktocricket

The post garnered outrage and to some extent, praise from the fans. One of them commented: “Wow. I’m a massive fan lads, but if that’s the fashion standard for fellas these days, I’ll stick to my singlet, jandals and footy shorts…”

The two Kiwi players may have certainly earned some brownie points of their team owners by doing the shoot, but they certainly attracted some bashing from their fans back home. Hope they wipe out this ‘performance’ by doing well for their country in the days to come.
