Everyone talks about the England and Australia rivalry and their Ashes history but whenever the traditional rivals have met; apart from intense moments the game has also witnessed some of the most cherished moments, moments that truly symbolise the spirit of the game.
The Brett Lee and Andrew Flintoff moment from Edgbaston 2005 makes perfect poster, and over the years there have been many others. The second One-Day International (ODI) between these two sides saw one such moment. In the first over of the match, Warner hurt himself in the first ball that he faced. He was struck on the thumb by a Steve Finn short delivery. An injured Warner had to leave the field but a concerned Finn rushed to him and checked with the batsman if he was fine.
Cricket’s governing body, the ICC, from it’s official Twitter account posted the picture and wrote, “The true spirit of cricket. Steven Finn consoles David Warner as he retires hurt in the 2nd ODI.”
