Pramodya Wickramasinghe: Six facts about the Sri Lankan fast bowler

Gallage Pramodya Wickramasinghe, born on August 14, 1971, in a hill town in Matara, was a Sri Lankan who bowled gentle out swingers. He picked up 85 wickets in 40 Tests at a not-so-flattering average of 41.87. His career was marred by shoulder injuries which eventually cut short his playing days. Pramodya Wickramasinghe recorded the historic feat of claiming all wickets in an innings when he took 10 for 41 against Kalutura YCC. And that too in a limited-overs game.

2.  Barren run

Sri Lanka had a dream run at the 1996 World Cup which they won. Sadly, Wickramasinghe remained wicketless.

3.  Underwhelming

Wickramasinghe picked 109 One-Day International (ODI) wickets in his career. But, quite unbelievably, it came from 134 ODIs over a period of 12 long years.

4.  100th wicket

His 100th ODI wicket was the prized scalp of Andy Flower, one of world’s best batsmen then.

As a former selector, Wickramasinghe revealed all the backdoor issues while questioning Lasith Malinga’s integrity in a public forum.
