Sachin Tendulkar adds glamour to 35th National Games

Former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar was the star attraction to the 35th National Games that got underway on Saturday at the Greenfield Stadium in Kariyavattom.

Tendulkar who was roped in by Kerala government as the goodwill ambassador for the games had more than 40,000 people cheering each time the speakers mentioned his name.

The Kerala Chief Minister Oomen Chandy welcomed the batting maestro, “I and my government on behalf of the people of Kerala extend our thanks to you for gracing this occasion and also by being the goodwill ambassador. Your gesture towards us will always be remembered,” said Chandy.

Tendulkar was at his buoyant best as he smiled and applauded the marching athletes from 30 states, five Union Territories and one Board.

He was also cheered when various sporting legends from Kerala carrying the torch went up to the podium to hand it over to him. Another round of applause and uproar waited for him when he handed the torch to Anju Bobby George and P.T. Usha who lit the massive Kerala ‘nilavilaku'(traditional lamp).
