Just when the millions of Indians, who have been following the Olympics at Rio with keen interest, started feeling that the Indian contingent might return empty handed this time, badminton player PV Sindhu raised hopes of a medal when she beat World No. 2 Wang Yihan of China in the quarter final of the individual event on Tuesday. With this upset win over one of the favourites to win the gold medal, Sindhu has set up a semi-final clash against Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara on Thursday, August 18. She is now just a win away from ensuring a medal for India, which could be the country’s first in the Rio games. Needless to say, the entire country will be backing her and following her semi-final on Thursday.
