Shah Rukh Khan re-brands his CPL side ‘Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel’ to ‘Trinbago Knight Riders’

In a bid to brand both of his cricket franchises under one umbrella, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan re-branded his co-owned Caribbean franchise ‘Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel’ to ‘Trinbago Knight Riders’. The Red Steels won the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) in 2015.

A report from PTI quoted Shah Rukh say, “It is a great honour to become part of the rich cricketing tradition of Trinidad & Tobago. We will do everything to uphold the tradition and thank all the people of Trinbago in advance for their passion and support.”

The Dwayne Bravo-led Red Steels or should we call them Knight Riders now, defeated Barbados Tridents in CPL final 2015 at their home ground of Queen’s Park Oval. The same management co-owns the popular IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). CEO Venky Mysore said,

“The acquisition of the Trinbago franchise is consistent with our vision to expand the “Knight Riders” brand globally. We are proud of the powerful KKR brand we have built in India as part of the IPL as well as the ever-growing fan base. We now look forward to expanding our brand in Trinbago as well as the entire Caribbean as part of the CPL.”

However, Mysore confirmed that the jersey colours would remain red, white and black.

Trinidad and Tobago, which has produced some great cricketers like Brian Lara, have a sizable population of Indian origin and Shah Rukh enjoys a massive popularity in that country too. It has been a good day for West Indies as their Under 19 side defeated Bangladesh to enter the final of the ICC Under 19 World Cup final. They will face India there. Earlier in the day, the CPL official Twitter account, which was busy with match updates tweeted the following picture:
