Indian women cricketer Smriti Mandhana has been on fire in the 2018 Women’s Cricket Super League. On Saturday, the opening batter scored the joint-fastest T20 fifty off just 18 deliveries in a rain-curtailed six-over-a-side match in the KIA Super League.
Mandhana scored 52 off 19 deliveries for Western Storm as the team posted a 85 runs for the loss of two wickets. In reply, Loughborough Lightning could only manage 67. She equalled New Zealand’s Sophie Devine’s record against India in 2015 during a women’s T20I match.
But the day got better for the 22-year-old as she met Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara. Mandhana was overwhelmed with the chance meeting and posted a picture with the former Sri Lankan captain with the caption, “This just made my day. A big fan girl moment for me. Can’t express how glad and overwhelmed I am. This memory is going to stay with me forever.”
Sangakkara also tweeted about Mandhana’s innings saying that the Indian opener was brilliant to watch.
Watching @mandhana_smriti putting bowlers to the sword here at Taunton. She is brilliant to watch. Great ambassador and great skill
