Former India cricketer S Sreesanth who was found guilty in the Indian Premier League (IPL) spot fixing scandal was attacked in Tihar Jail by another inmate who was accused in a murder case.

As reported by Indo-Asian News Service, Sreesanth’s brother-in-law, Madhu Balakrishnan told to a Malayalam TV channel on Friday, “He told us that while he was walking inside the jail compound, a known history sheeter suddenly jumped before him, brandishing a very sharp knife… He [Sreesanth] reacted and in the melee, the attacker injured his hand and was taken away by the jail staff.”

Sreesanth and his family did not filed any complaint to the police regarding this attack and neither they intend to. The former Indian seamer was arrested and charged with match-fixing scandal while playing for Rajasthan Royals in IPL in 2013.

Delhi police appealed the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against Sreesanth and the trial is almost complete now in a court in Delhi. The decision is expected to come early next month.
