Australian skipper Steve Smith stunned everyone with his improvisation on a delivery from Wahab Riaz in the ICC World T20 2016 encounter between Australia and Pakistan. He earned a priceless boundary as he went way above the off stump and still managed to flick Riaz towards square leg, a stroke which looked almost impossible to execute. Smith opened up on that stroke as said that he read Wahab’s mind and knew exactly what he was going to bowl. It was the 19th over of the game when Smith used his guile and smashed Wahab for a four, the bowler was also criticised for not going for the stumps. Smith was quoted in a report from Cricket.com.au saying,”You look at field … (Wahab) was always going to bowl wide. I genuinely think if he had bowled at stumps it would’ve been an easier shot. I could just tell where it was going to go. When you’re in the zone … you can just tell where it’s going to go occasionally. That was one of those instances.”

Smith also added saying that he was trying that particular stroke for a long time now and practiced a lot. He said, ““That’s something I’ve worked on a little bit in the nets. When the time’s right and the field’s right … you don’t think about doing it, it just sort of happens. Yorkers are hard to get away at the best of times so you’ve got to try and find a place to hit them.”
