VIDEO: “Is that a bird?” Harbhajan Singh, Mumbai Indians welcome Martin Guptill

Indian Premier League (IPL) can be life changing yet funny at the same time. The likes of Deepak Hooda, Sanju Samson, Nathu Singh, Karun Nair, Krunal Pandya among a few others went on to be crorepatis while Martin Guptill found no takers in the auction.

New Zealand’s Guptill is currently one of the best batsmen in limited-overs cricket. It surprised many when the maverick Kiwi batsman was not picked in the IPL auctions this year. More surprising because his base price was only INR 50 lakhs. Guptill took the blow on the chin but did not let the sulking feeling set in. He continued doing what he has been doing over the past few years — score runs and at a fast pace. Guptill was one of New Zealand’s star players in their good run in the ICC World T20 2016. Not only he got the quick runs but also he was a livewire on the field.

How often we have seen someone’s loss going onto be a gain for another! Lendl Simmons’ injury hit Mumbai Indians (MI) camp hard but they got Guptill as a replacement. Finally, Guptill gets to play IPL. It is fair in many ways.

MI’s Twitter account posted a video, which displays Guptill’s incredible athleticism. While it is not a good news for the opponents, fielding coach Jonty Rhodes will be a proud man. MI veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh too was stunned by the effort and tweeted, ” Is that a bird ??? Welcome @Martyguptill”

Take a look at this fielding effort:
