Virender Sehwag feels MS Dhoni’s Team India are favourites for ICC World T20

India cruised to another comfortable win against Sri Lanka to seal a berth in the final of Asia Cup T20 2016. The MS Dhoni-led Indian side is currently the No. 1 ranked T20I side and they have been playing as the best side. They have won eight out of their nine T20Is this year and enter the ICC World T20 2016 as one of the favourites.

Former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag certainly think so. The batting legend who retired in October 2015 feels “India are the favourites  for the competition.” A report from PTI quoted him as saying, “We have batsmen like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane and bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Ashish Nehra and spin attack of Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin. I think, India are the favourites for the competition.”

Sehwag then went on to praise Kohli and Rohit, and said that if these two batted for the first seven or eight overs, India would be unstoppable.

The bonding shared between Indian pace spearhead Nehra and Sehwag is well-known. These two are childhood friends and practiced together. Both also made their India debut in 1999. Sehwag reserved special praises for his 36-year-old friend, who marked a memorable comeback earlier this year.

“Nehra has been doing better, especially taking wickets in early overs. I think, he will play well, like he did it along with Zaheer Khan in the 2011 World Cup,” he added.

During the match against Pakistan on Sunday, Sehwag was on a tweeting spree as he kept congratulating his friend and former teammate through a series of tweets.

India take on New Zealand in their first match at Nagpur on Tuesday, March 15. India have never beaten the Kiwis in a T20I and will look to turn the tides here.
