Virender Sehwag, Stuart Broad remember Jim Laker’s historic spell
Jim Laker on this day, 60 years back, inscribed his name in the history of Test cricket with gold for his historic 19-wicket haul in Test. At Old Trafford, Laker bowled with unmatched confidence and scalped nine wickets in the first innings while he had all 10 to his name in the second against Australia in 1956 Ashes. Laker still holds the record with pride and in a rare video of the game, the way wickets were celebrated those days has been illustrated. The feat remains untouched till date and on this occasion; Virender Sehwag and English speedster Stuart Broad remember his outing.
Sehwag, who has been wonderful to watch on social media once again proved his wittiness as he posted a picture of Laker on Twitter and wrote, “#LakerHumDeewanaDil Jim Laker dis day bcame1st man2take all 10wkts.But @anilkumble1074 ‘s10at Kotla gives goosebumps”
Those days celebrations were just a formal handshake and the appeal to the umpires were to very polite. Broad uploaded a video of the iconic outing by Laker and wrote, “Great footage. Celebrations have moved forward….”
