When cupid struck Ishant Sharma, Pratima Singh on a basketball court

The script just cannot get any better than this for a sportsperson. Indian cricketer Ishant Sharma, who is set to tie the knot with his lady love — basketball player Pratima Singh — in December, was struck by cupid on the basketball court. For Pratima, who has spent a major part of her recent years on the basketball court, meeting the lanky cricketer on that very court for the first time and subsequently falling for him must have been the best thing to happen. A recent report in The Indian Express threw light on the couple’s first encounter. ALSO READ: When Ishant Sharma sought permission from Pratima’s sister to take her out.

It all started when Ishant accepted Pratima’s elder sister and his rakhi-sister Divya’s request to attend a basketball meet organised by her as the chief guest in the year 2011. On that very occasion, Ishant mingled with Pratima and her sisters as he chose to spend time on the court rather than sit on the dais. Rest, they say, is history as the two are set to get married this December after a courtship of over three years. Divya Singh, who set up this match by chance, is all praise for it. For her, “it’s a perfect match”. Ishant’s a great guy; down to earth, easy going and respectful. Fame’s not gone to his head. It helps that they play sport.” Pratima on her part has enjoyed success as well. A star at the 2008 Senior Nationals for Delhi, she represented India at the 2010 Asian Games, but it was a year later after recovering from a career-threatening knee injury that she returned to average close to 30 points per game.

This union will hands-down be one of the finest between two Indian sports-persons. And the best thing about it is that both will continue to focus on their careers. “Not much will change regarding my commitment to sports even after marriage. We both know and understand how to maintain a balance between career and relationship. I have always been great in time management, the reason I could play for so many years for the nation. This will not change even after marriage. My duty towards the nation will not be kept aside by Ishant, no matter what”, Pratima had said recently.

We hope and wish things go just the same way for the young couple.
