The 67th Academy Awards, 1995 was carrying on in its usual American extravaganza. As most has expected, Elton John and Tim Rice (for music and lyrics respectively) won the Awards for the best original song (Can you feel the love tonight from Lion King). Elton John thanked “the Members of the Academy for this incredible honour”, Hans Zimmer, “everybody at Disney”, his parents, John Reid, his friends in Utah, and “everyone who had worked on this most enjoyable project”.

Rice started the usual way, with a little twist at the end: “Many thanks to everyone at Disney, in particular, as it’s a musical thing, Mr Hans Zimmer. I’d also like to thank Denis Compton, a childhood hero of mine.”

Nobody at Disney had any clue who Denis Compton was. Not willing to give up, they browsed the Disney payroll list, until one of the employees had to confess: “We don’t know who Denis Compton is. He doesn’t appear to be at Disney Studios or have anything to do with them.”
