Madan Lal had no idea what was going on as the ball uprooted the off-stump. That was not all: on its way it grazed the middle-stump (but not hard enough to disturb it it) and felled the leg-stump. The sight of the middle-stump standing and the other two flattened was a rare and bizarre sight.
