When Sourav Ganguly defined Rahul Dravid as “one of the most selfless characters”

Though Rahul Dravid mentioned that losing a World Cup final as a player and then as a coach is a complete different feeling, you cannot stop fans from comparing the two moments. In ICC Cricket World Cup 2003, Dravid was India’s wicketkeeper and performed exceedingly well as India made it to the final of the tournament. They were beaten there by a dominant Australian side led by Ricky Ponting.

Thirteen years later, Dravid as a coach of the Indian Under-19 side, guided the team to the final where they lost against West Indies. Until the final, India were unbeaten. Dravid is a man, who is loved in India and stands as one of the most respected figures of the game. Fans hoped the young men did the job for Dravid. Dravid turned 43 last month and on that occasion, Sourav Ganguly shared a touching tribute on the great man.  Dravid may have come second again but he and his young boys brought a lot of joy to the fans. Here’s what Ganguly had posted a month:

The greatest thing about Jammy was that he never said ‘No’ to anything asked of him. . You asked him to open.. He would do that. . You asked him to bat at No. 3 .. He would do that. . You asked him to keep wickets.. He did that so that his team can go in with one extra batsman. . He was ideally test specialist.. But you asked him to raise his game in the limited overs version.. He did that as well! . Simply one of the most selfless characters the game has ever seen.. Happy Birthday Rahul. Long live legend!
