Yuvraj Singh to invest Rs 30-50 crore in next 3-5 years via start-up; also confirms MS Dhoni is a good friend

This is a season of new beginning for Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh. All set to make a fresh start with a new Indian Premier League franchise, Delhi’s new daredevil Yuvraj is set to don another new hat, this time it’s launching a start-up fund, YouWeCan Ventures. Though not picked for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, the southpaw got picked for a whopping Rs 16 crore in the IPL auctions by Delhi Daredevils.

In an interview with CNBC TV18, the 33-year-old all-rounder spoke about his new venture and also about his alleged estranged relationship with Indian skipper MS Dhoni.

Yuvraj believes that e-commerce, which is on an ever growing phase is a great opportunity. He plans to invest a lot of money in the coming years. When asked about the business and the size of it, Yuvraj said, “We are calling it YouWeCan Ventures. I have spoken to a few friends and associates; we are looking to invest about Rs 40-50 crore in the next three to five years. I have spoken to a few friends and associates, we are trying to make it a — if they are going to come on board — we are going to try and invest up to Rs 250-300 crore and see what opportunities we get in the market.”

He is currently concentrating on his game for the upcoming season of IPL but he feels that there are a lot of great ideas by young entrepreneurs, who need funding and Yuvraj is ready to help them out. Yuvraj, who has undergone a long treatment for cancer, said that all sectors were important but most important was “healthcare”.

“All the sectors are important, hospitality food, for me healthcare is the most important thing. People have started to take their health very seriously. Since my experience this is one area I would really like to concentrate on. So, lot of opportunities over there,” added Yuvraj.

The World Cup man-of-the-tournament of the 2011 edition refused to comment on selection issues in the national side. Earlier this year, Yuvraj’s father Yograj Singh accused Dhoni for keeping his son out of the side and even recently, he lashed out on the Indian skipper cursing him and comparing him with Ramayana antagonist “Ravana”. However Yuvraj played it safe when asked about his relation with Dhoni.

“I can’t really comment on it because I have not been in the selection process. I don’t know what is going on in the selection. Every time me and Mahi have played we have had a great partnership, we have had good friendship. So, I can’t really say what is happening in the media, I can’t really talk about it. I am very comfortable playing with him and look forward to playing for India again,” said Yuvraj, as he also defended the Indian captain for India’s dismal show in the World Cup semi-final.

“We have played for so many years together. Lot of things are said in the media about team selections, as a captain you have got to first see what is your best playing eleven and you have to form the team according to that. I don’t think all the blame should go on Dhoni for whatever has happened. 11 guys are playing on the field and they should take the responsibility,” he added.
