Liverpool will take on defending champions Sevilla in the final of the UEFA Europa League 2015-16 at Basel on May 18. Liverpool won their match at Anfield by 3-0 and thereby winning the tie against Villareal by 3-1 aggregate. Sevilla on the other hand completed a 3-1 win against Ukrainian side Shaktar Donestk (Aggregate 5-3) and will play their third final in a row. Sevilla have won the Europa League twice in the last two years and will be looking to make a hat-trick. Regardless of what happens in the final, this is Liverpool’s best performance in the newly formed Europa League.

An own goal from Bruno, Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana were good enough to seal the match for Liverpool. Villareal on the other hand did not create many chances and were also down to 10-men when Victor Ruiz was sent off for a second yellow card offence. Liverpool have three more games in the premier League, but may consider playing a second string team for those matches with the Europa League final taking top priority.

Kevin Gamerio scored twice for Sevilla as they sailed to the final of the tournament once again. Shaktar had equilised before the break with Marlos, but it was a second half dominated completely by Sevilla.

The winner of the final will play in the playoff stage in the Uefa Champions League 2016-17 and get a chance to play in the group stages of Europe’s elite contest. A win for Sevilla in the final would ensure that they have won the competition five times. Last time Liverpool played in the final was in 2001, where they beat Depotrivo Alaves 5-4 in the final.
