COMMENTARY

That's all we have from this entertaining game. Bangladesh punched above their weight to beat England for the first time in T20Is and have taken a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series. The action now moves back to Dhaka for the final leg of England's tour. The second T20I is on 12th March (Sunday) at 2.30 pm IST (9 am GMT). Do join us in advance for the build-up. Cheers!
Shakib Al Hasan, the captain of Bangladesh, says that he can't ask more from the team. Admits they were under the pump with the ball initially but no one panicked. Tells that in this format you don't need to think too much and that helps in the performance. Wants to build the same kind of fearless atmosphere in the dressing room. States that they are looking to build a team for the next World Cup and it's a good start for them.
Najmul Hossain Shanto (51 off 30 balls) is the Player of the Match. Says that Towhid Hridoy batted really well and he himself was only looking to play proper cricketing shots. Adds that the way Bangladesh bowled was superb and it helped the batters. Praises the opening partnership provided by Litton Das and Rony Talukdar as well.
Jos Buttler, the English skipper, says that Bangladesh finished the innings very well with the ball and England were perhaps 20 short. Adds that the pitch behaved as they expected and having a few extra runs on the board would have helped them. Praises Bangladesh for the way they showed the intent with the bat. Tells that England have a different balance in the team and he is blessed with plenty of bowling options.
Stay tuned for the presentation...
England have themselves to blame for this loss. They shot themselves in the foot after losing the plot in the end overs while batting. A strong platform was set but losing Jos Buttler and Ben Duckett off consecutive deliveries punctured their charge. The visitors mustered only 30 runs in the last five overs and finished with a below-par total. Credit to the way Bangladesh bounced back. Hasan Mahmud was exceptional in the death overs and must be commended for showing his control over variations.
It was an in-between target for the home team and the way they approached the chase was very refreshing. The openers were fearless and then the pair of Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy capitalized in the middle phase. Their alliance in a way sealed the deal as the required rate dropped down below 6. There were a few nervy moments when both got dismissed in quick succession but the experience of Shakib Al Hasan came to the rescue. He kept the momentum and along with Afif Hossain finished the chase with relative ease in the end.
The Twenty20 world champions taken down! Bangladesh have done it. They have outplayed England. It's a lovely batting show from them, powered by some young and new faces. The next generation seems ready to take over for the Bangla Tigers.

COMMENTARY

End of over

BAN158/4 (18.0 Ovs)

We are back for the chase. The umpires and players make their way out in the middle. Litton Das and Rony Talukdar will open the innings for Bangladesh. Sam Curran will start the proceedings with the ball for England. Let's play...
... CHASE TIME ...
Right then, England will be a bit disappointed with their batting effort towards the end but Jos Buttler will be confident enough that his bowlers can defend this total. On the other hand, Bangladesh have momentum with them but they have a tricky target to overhaul. Will their batters rise to the challenge? We shall find out shortly. Back in a bit for the chase.
Despite Shakib Al Hasan winning the toss and opting to bowl first, Bangladesh were unable to start well, conceding 51 runs in the Powerplay. Moreover, the two dropped catches did not help their case either. They did manage to dismiss Philip Salt in the 10th over but they were unable to keep Jos Buttler and Ben Duckett quiet. However, they clawed their way back into the game by dismissing both batters in quick succession. They kept the pressure on the incoming batters and never allowed England to gain any momentum in the death overs.
This has been a good fightback by Bangladesh and they have done well to keep England below 160. After England were sent into bat, the opening pair of Philip Salt and Jos Buttler got them off to a flying start in the Powerplay. Despite the departure of his partner near the halfway mark, Jos Buttler kept going and stitched a quickfire 47-run stand with Ben Duckett. The visitors were pegged back after losing both set batters on consecutive deliveries and lost their way with the bat. As a result, they were unable to maximize towards the backend of the innings.
19.6
Taskin Ahmed to Moeen Ali, 2 runs, A fantastic attempt. Slower one, short and around off, Moeen stands back and hammers it towards wide long on. Shanto takes the catch near the fence and then tosses it up as he goes beyond the fence. The fielder from deep mid-wicket is in the vicinity and he tries to catch it with a dive. The ball though spills out and the batters take two runs. England end on 156 for 6.

Time to get underway! The Bangladesh players are out in the middle and they are joined by the two English openers - Jos Buttler and Philip Salt. Nasum Ahmed to deliver the first over. Let's play...
Jos Buttler, the English captain, says that he has good experience in the squad and is looking forward to a good series. Mentions that he would have batted first anyway as it's a used surface. Adds that you have to play with a lot of freedom in T20s and informs that two players missing out are Rehan Ahmed and Reece Topley.
Shakib Al Hasan, the captain of Bangladesh, says that they are not sure what a good score will be so they are happy to let England bat first. Feels that they have to play with a lot of freedom in this format and informs that a lot of boys who fared well in the BPL are included in the squad. Tells that Towhid Hridoy is making his debut. Agrees that they have to assess the wicket and bowl accordingly.
Pitch report - The surface here at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium is the same that was used for the final ODI. There are a lot of cracks and the bowlers will need to bowl cutters into the surface. The wicket will provide assistance to the spinners but not as much as it did in the last game. Looks like a top surface and runs on the board will be handy.
Bangladesh (Playing XI) - Rony Talukdar, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Litton Das (WK), Shakib Al Hasan (C), Towhid Hridoy (On T20I debut), Afif Hossain, Shamim Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Nasum Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Mustafizur Rahman.
England (Playing XI) - Philip Salt, Jos Buttler (C/WK), Dawid Malan, Ben Duckett, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Chris Woakes, Chris Jordan, Adil Rashid, Jofra Archer, Mark Wood.
TOSS - The coin toss lands in the favour of Bangladesh and they have opted to BOWL first.

End of over

BAN158/4 (18.0 Ovs)
