COMMENTARY

Right then, that is it from the series then. England had a lead and was well on track to winning the series but the hosts bounced back from nowhere and leveled. The trophy has been shared between Stokes and Southee. We hope you enjoyed our company. Until next time, goodbye and take care. Cheers!
Ben Stokes the skipper of England says this was a game of the highest quality and he was mesmerized by the quality on display all around the game. On a game-changing moment, he said that it was Wagner who blew this game wide open and won them this game. He added that we knew once caught up in that situation that the bouncer will be attempted more often on us and we had a plan for that too but we failed to execute that and the opponents won as they deserve to win. On his knee, he said that the knee is bad but it is okay. He closes by saying disappointed to end like this but the team would have taken 4 wins out of 5 with both hands.
Tim Southee the skipper of New Zealand says this game is right up there, to bounce back after a follow-on is something special and pleasing. He adds that this will take some time in soaking in as it takes a lot of character to bounce back after follow-on. He also adds the guys are top quality and nothing much was said between us after the defeat in the first game as the belief and trust in each other is still there in the team. He also lauded senior players like Kane, Wagner, and Blundell to showcase their experience at a time when the team needed it the most. He closes by saying that it is brilliant for test cricket the way England plays and we are looking forward to more such games as such games will keep the format alive.
Harry brook is the player of the series. He says It feels bittersweet right now, the track did not seem this good but this was a really nice track for both sets of players. On his bowling, he says that he is happy to be called a part-time bowler and doesn't consider himself a bowler. He closes by saying that if anybody would have given him this game before the start he would have taken it on a personal level but he would have loved to change the result of this game in their favor.
Kane Williamson is the player of the match. He says it feels so proud to be standing here after such a game, congratulations to both teams for putting up a game like this for the spectators. He adds that the team saw some valuable partnerships and that injected momentum in the side which is needed after a display as we did in the first innings. He also adds that the quality of the opponent was really good and even the track was perfect as it had everything from partnerships between the batters to a fifer from Jack Leach, such tracks are really good for the game.
Presentations coming up...
Tom Blundell is in for a chat. He says he is really happy that he took the catch cleanly and it all went well. He adds that after the bad performance in the first inning, it was important for the team to work in partnerships and they managed to do that well. He closes by saying that it was tough keeping out in the middle as it was challenging but such situations make a player better and it worked well in his favor.
Neil Wagner is in for a quick chat. He says he is feeling over the cloud t this moment and hats off to the team for pulling out such a performance. He adds that credit goes to the team to pull back a victory in a game where follow-on was inflicted on them and the team was below par in the first innings but they bounced back brilliantly and that gave them the momentum to pull up the unthinkable.
Phew! What a rollicking performance this has been from both sides. England at the start came out all guns blazing and declared at 435. They bundled the hosts for 209 and gave them a follow on having a lead of 226 runs. The hosts overcame their lead and gave England a challenging target of 258 to chase and defended the total where the visitors just fell short of one run.
Chasing a total of 258 runs, England lost early wickets earlier in the day but were rescued by Joe Root who was the star. England was cruising till he was on, but when he lost his wicket, the wickets kept on tumbling for them and New Zealand certainly took advantage of it. Ben Foakes stood firm at the end but fell for a shorter delivery. For the hosts, Neil Wagner was the pick of the bowlers as he picked 4 wickets and turned the game on its head. He was ably supported by Tim Southee who picked up 3 wickets. Matt Henry got a couple of wickets to his name as New Zealand came from behind to win this epic Test match.
Coming to the game now, it was England who was in the driver's seat when Day 4 started, and New Zealand needed something magical if they were to pull a victory here, and boy did New Zealand not put on a dominating show here. The momentum of the game just shifted from one corner to another like a pendulum and at the end, it came down the wire where New Zealand clinched a victory by just 1 run!
What a remarkable game of Test cricket we have noticed here at Basin Reserve, Wellington! The series is level and what a finish this has been for this game. Pure emotion from New Zealand and it does not get any better. This surely goes down as one of the greatest Test cricket matches in history. Brendon McCullum exchanges a smile with his former teammates.

... DAY 5, SESSION 2 ...
This game is not over by any stretch of the imagination. A wicket could open the gates for the hosts whereas, if Root stays in the middle for more 10-15 overs it could well be over in a flash. A decisive session of the game awaits us when we will be back after lunch at 6.10 am IST (5.40 pm GMT).
Lunch on day 5. England has managed to score freely as they score 120 runs in 33 overs losing 4 wickets. Well, it has been a really good session of cricket. The hosts New Zealand managed to grab early wickets in the first hour of the day as they managed to scalp 4 wickets in no time giving away just 32 runs. Ever since the unlucky dismissal of Brooks who walked back without facing a delivery as a consequence of a run-out, it has been England all over the Kiwis. The partnership of 88 runs between Stokes and Root has managed to put the visitors in the driving seat once again. There have been casualties on both sides as Henry injured his back while bowling and had to leave the field but is back on the ground, While, Stokes was also seen limping due to an injury to his knee of the left leg.

On the other hand, the hosts were under the pump from the first day but they rose from the grave and showed some grit. They finally have some hope in the game that they can actually level this series if they manage to bag some early wickets at the start of the final day. Nonetheless, it is going to be a tough fight for their bowlers to bowl on a batting pitch. We're in for an exciting finish, stay tuned as the action is not far away.
Hello and a warm welcome to the final day of the England tour of New Zealand. It was a four days of total action where the momentum shifted from one corner to another and it is England who are in the driver's seat at the moment. Day 4 tested their patience but they finally managed to bundle the hosts for 483 runs. They now need 210 runs with 9 wickets in their kitty.
... DAY 5, SESSION 1 ...
Right then, that is it from Day 4 of this Test match, and it was another exciting Day of Test cricket where momentum shifted from one corner to another. England is well ahead in this one now and needs 210 runs to win with nine wickets in hand. The play on the final day will have an early start at 3 am IST (9.30 pm GMT, the Previous Day). Do join us for the early build-up as well. Until then, goodbye and cheers!
Earlier in the game, it was a Kane Williamson show as he became the leading run scorer for New Zealand in Test cricket as he overcomes Ross Taylor. He was dismissed after scoring 132 runs alongside Tom Blundell who was dismissed on 90. Tom Latham and Devon Conway at the top order made valuable contributions as well.
Coming to chase a challenging target of 258, England have lost a wicket of Zak Crawley, but they are well in the driver's seat at the moment. New Zealand bowlers will have to come up with something special if they need to win the game from here on. England now need 210 runs with nine wickets in hand.
New Zealand started the final session 423/5 with the partnership of Kane Williamson and Tom Blundell kept on frustrating the visitors. Just when the contest was turning far away from England, it was Harry Brook that brought them back into this encounter with a majestic wicket of Williamson. Once he was dismissed, wickets kept on tumbling for them and there was no turning back. Jack Leach was the pick of the bowlers for England and bagged a five-wicket haul. Ollie Robinson, Stuart Broad, Joe Root, and Harry Brook claimed a wicket a piece.

COMMENTARY

End of over

NZ483 (162.3 Ovs)

Time for the hosts to bat now. The England players are making their way out on the field. Followed by Tom Latham and Devon Conway who walk out to open for New Zealand. It will be the number 1 Test bowler, James Anderson to start with the new ball.
... Second Innings ...
Right then, looking at the second new ball taken by the Kiwis there is definiately some venom on the deck. Although, a while back some sun was peeping through the skies. That would be an ideal condition for the Kiwis but they surely need to keep their composure against a deadly English bowling line-up. Do join us for New Zealand's first innings with the bat in hand shortly...
That's it from England's first innings - The have got 435 on the board and will come out to bowl now in the remaining time in the morning session. Once again, New Zealand were sharp with the ball in the morning session, just like they were on Day 1 and kept picking up wickets at regular intervals. Although, they would be slightly frustrated with how long Ollie Robinson stayed out at the crease. Nevertheless, the pendulum was always with the away side. Harry Brook would be gutted as he missed out on his first ever double-ton of his career. He was the first one to slip out in the morning. For the Kiwis, Matt Henry stood out with the ball with his four-fer.

We are all set to start Day 2! The players are already out there in the middle. Harry Brook and Joe Root to continue batting for England. Matt Henry to start proceedings with the ball.
New Zealand, on the other hand, had a brilliant spell at the start of Day 1 where Tim Southee also picked up his 700th international wicket, but they faded away after that. However, they will be hoping to make early inroads here and try to restrict England under 400. Matt Henry was their best bowler, but he will need the support of others if they are to get through this English batting order. Stay tuned for all the action coming up in a bit.
Harry Brook was the star of Day 1 with his blistering hundred, and he is just 16 runs away from his double century. Joe Root looked like his old self, and he too registered a ton. Both of them will look to take England to a huge total, while Ben Stokes may have a decision to make as the weather forecast is a bit gloomy and we could lose a chunk of this Test match.
Hello and welcome to our coverage of Day 2 of the second Test between New Zealand and England. The first Day well and truly belonged to England as they once again racked up more than 300 runs in just two and a half sessions as rain played spoilsport after Tea and we lost around 25 overs, which they will try to cover up here with an early start.
... DAY 2, SESSION 1 ...
Right then, that is it from an enticing Day 1 of this Test match. England dominated proceedings here and will look to do the same on Day 2 as well while New Zealand will hope to make early inroads. There will be an early start on Day 2 as we have lost a lot of overs due to rain. So, the action will begin at 3 am IST (9.30 pm GMT, Previous Day). Do join us early for the build-up. Until then, Cheers and Goodbye!
New Zealand started Day 1 with a lot of hopes and Matt Henry gave them the perfect start as well picking up two early wickets. Then a stunning catch from Michael Bracewell gave them their third wicket which was also the 700th international wicket for their skipper, Tim Southee and they were all over England at that point of time. However, they just could not build on that and once Harry Brook and Joe Root were at the crease, they looked out of ideas. The bowling changes from Tim Southee did not work at all and just like in the first Test, the English batters targeted Neil Wagner and scored plenty against him. He conceded 101 runs in his 17 overs which is a bit too expensive. They tried a lot of things, but nothing worked for them. In the middle of session three, rain started pouring down which gave the Kiwis some relief and thinking time to plan how to get back into this game. Now, they will need to come out with different strategies to get the better of the English batters.
After being asked to bat first, England did not get off to an ideal start as they were struggling at 21-3 and were in a spot of bother. However, that was the only phase when they were on the back foot as Harry Brook and Joe Root absolutely nullified the Kiwi attack with the 'Bazball' approach. Brook went hammer and tons and scored a terrific century in no time and also went past his previous highest score in Test cricket of 153. He also crossed 800 runs in Test cricket in nine innings. Root played the perfect support to him and he also registered a fine hundred which will give him a lot of confidence as he was a bit inconsistent in recent times. Both of them added a record-breaking 294 runs for the fourth wicket. However, just as Root reached his hundred, rain played spoil port and we could not get any more action. Brook remained unbeaten on 184 and will look to get a double hundred when he comes out to bat with Root again who will be playing on 101. It will also be interesting to see if and when Ben Stokes decided to declare this innings.
The inevitable has happened. We will not be getting any further action on Day 1 and it is officially Stumps. An exciting Day of Test cricket comes to a rather dull end because of rain. We were able to get 65 overs on Day 1 in which England scored an impressive 315 runs while losing three wickets. They are well ahead in this Test while the Kiwis will be kicking themselves for not going full attacking when they had England by the scruff of their neck at the start.
Update 10.03 am IST (4.33 am GMT) - The big covers are on now and there is a steady drizzle at the ground. It is looking less likely that we will get any action at the moment. All we can do is hope.
Update 9.33 am IST (4.03 am GMT) - Looks like I got my hopes high pretty early here. The drizzle is back, and the umpires near the deck open their umbrellas to find some shed. The covers are coming on once again. Let's see for how long the wait game goes on.
Update 9.30 am IST (4 am GMT) - Wow! This was pretty quick. The rain has passed by and the groundsmen are seen taking the covers off. It rained but briefly. The crowd could anticipate some more action here.
UPDATE 9.27 am IST (3.57 am GMT) - OH NO! Joe Root gets to his ton and the umpires have asked the players to make their way off the field as it starts to pour now. England continue on their merry way since the post-Tea session. They are 315/3 at the end of 65 overs. Hopefully, it is just a passing shower and we get going again soon.

... DAY 1, SESSION 3 ...
What a session for England! It was certainly a one-sided affair in the post-Lunch session. Harry Brook and Joe Root bat throughout the session here and have added 136 runs at the end of the afternoon session. Joe Root racked up his half-century with a sensible knock, meanwhile, Harry Brook continued with his aggressive approach and racked up his fourth ton in Test cricket. The hosts have been completely blown away here. The Kiwis would be scratching their heads and wondering how this match has come to this stage. Tim Southee's bowling changes have not been remarkable since the opening hour of this Test match. Neil Wagner was certainly taken to the cleaners here. New Zealand need to head back and come up with some new strategies, if they are to make inroads in this match. So then, England clearly are on the driving seat here. Will the Kiwis be able to change the trajectory of this game in the final session? We shall find out soon, do join us at 8.30 am IST (3 am GMT), to find out how things pan out.

We are back for the second session! The players are making their way out in the middle now. Joe Root and Harry Brook to continue the innings for England. Tim Southee to start proceedings with the ball.
... DAY 1, SESSION 2 ...
Tim Southee won the toss and opted to field first. The new-ball bowlers certainly justified their skipper's decision of bowling first by taking three early wickets. The Kiwi seamers were getting the ball to dance on their tunes, but their control over the batters deteriorated when the sun started to shine in all its glory. Matt Henry has made an impact after coming back into the side with a brace. New Zealand would hope to take a couple of early wickets in the post-Lunch session to shift the momentum back on their side. To find out how things pan out, do join us at 6.10 am IST (12.40 am GMT) for yet another riveting session of Test cricket.
We all know how England's approach has become in the Test matches under the leadership of Brendon McCullum, although New Zealand made their stay difficult at the crease. England lost three wickets with just 21 on the scoreboard. Harry Brook and Joe Root then managed to remain unscathed till the Lunch break and added 80 valuable runs to their tally. Brook was the aggressor while Joe Root was happy to play second-fiddle. The former continues on his merry way and walks into the break with a half-ton besides his name.
Phew! This has been an entertaining start to the second Test match between New Zealand and England. It is the hosts that would be the happier side despite losing three wickets in this session.

We are all set for the start of Day 3! England players are making their way out in the middle now. Tim Southee and Tom Blundell to fight for New Zealand to save follow-on. Ollie Robinson to start the proceedings with the ball. Let's play...
New Zealand trail by 297 runs with only three wickets remaining. Tim Southee and Tom Blundell are at the crease, and this pair is their last hope if they are to avoid the follow-on, but that looks like an uphill task at the moment. England, on the other hand, have outplayed the Kiwis in all departments, and James Anderson showed why he is the top-ranked bowler in Tests, and that too at the age of 40. Jack Leach supported him well, and their aim will be to bowl out New Zealand as soon as possible and then maybe ask them to bat again to finish them off and seal the series. Stay tuned for all the action on Day 3 starting in a bit.
Hello and a warm welcome folks! The start of Day 3 of the second Test between New Zealand and England is not too far away and we know that Day 3 is also known as Moving Day and we could be getting a result here if weather permits. The rain has cost us a lot of overs till now, but England have still managed to be in spot from where losing would be harder than to win. The Kiwis will hope that something miraculous happens and they get back into this game.
... DAY 3, SESSION 1 ...
Right then, that is it from Day 2 of this Test match, and it was another exciting Day of Test cricket that ended early because of rain again. England are well ahead in this one, and with weather conditions like this, they might look to force the follow-on. Day 3 is known as the Moving Day and we will surely get close to a result if rain permits. The action will begin early to cover up the lost overs, so the first ball will be bowled at 3 am IST (9.30 pm GMT, Previous Day). Do join us for the build-up. Until then, Cheers and Goodbye!
New Zealand, just like on Day 1 were able to pick up a few quick wickets early on and it was Matt Henry again who started proceedings for them by getting rid of Harry Brook quite early. They picked up wickets at regular intervals, but also leaked runs which did not help them in any way. Henry was their best bowler with four wickets. They came out to bat trailing by 435 runs, and things got from bad to worse for them as they lost Kane Williamson, Devon Conway and Will Young in quick succession and were reduced to 21-3 exactly like England. Tom Latham and Henry Nicholls steadied their ship for a bit, but Latham got dismissed with a controversial decision which started a mini collapse for them and they found themselves at 103-7. However, then their skipper, Tim Southee came out to bat and played a few lusty blows and provided support to Tom Blundell who is their last recognised batter. Just as they were looking good and started scoring runs at a brisk rate, rain played spoilsport and now they will have to keep their focus and continue on Day 3.
Despite losing a few wickets in early on, England did not let their scoring rate decrease. Harry Brook would have been disappointed as he missed out on his double hundred, but Joe Root led the charge for his team with a couple of cameos from Ben Stokes and Ollie Robinson. Root reached his 150 and  Stokes decided to declare the innings at 435/8. They continued their momentum with the ball as well as James Anderson provided them with two crucial breakthroughs in no time before Lunch. In the second session, Anderson once again got a wicket, but then it was all about Jack Leach who  troubled the Kiwi batters and ran through their middle order picking up three wickets which included the dismissal of two set batters in Henry Nicholls and Tom Latham. Stuart Broad also got into the act and picked up a wicket. However, after just nine overs in the third session, the drizzle started and no more play was possible.
That will be Stumps on Day 2! The consistent rain meant that we could not get any further play. New Zealand still trail by 297 runs with three wickets in hand. A total of 258 runs were scored and 12 wickets fell on Day 2. However, England would be a bit disappointed as they would have liked to bowl the Kiwis out here, but they will have to wait now. New Zealand, on the other hand needs a miracle to avoid the follow-on, and they will hope that someone stands up for them.
Update 9.37 am IST (4.07 am GMT) - Good news folks! The covers are off now and the umpires walk out to have an inspection. The word from the middle is that the game will resume at 9.45 am IST (4.15 GMT). Join us for all the action. OH NO!! Just when the umpires were done with the inspection. The drizzle is back and the covers are on as well. The groundstaff could not even leave the field after taking the covers off. The wait game resets here.
Update 9.15 am IST (3.45 am GMT) - Oh..no! The rain has started now. Both the umpires have a chat and asks the players to go off field now. The covers are coming on, but it is a slight drizzle and we can hope for further action. Stay with us.

... DAY 2, SESSION 3 ...
Phew! This session went at a rate of knots. New Zealand have lost 6 wickets with just 96 runs on the board. Ollie Pope is delighted as he walks off the field now. England couldn't have asked for a better way to head into the Tea break. James Anderson was the one who started the proceedings in the post-Lunch session by getting rid of Will Young. Then, Jack Leach came to the fore and spun a web around the batters and picked up three wickets in no time to put the Kiwis in a precarious position. Only a miracle now can get the Kiwis back into the game here. New Zealand are behind by 339 runs and they certainly have their task cut out. New Zealand haven't been able to build solid stands in the middle and that is the difference between the two sides here. The final session on Day 2 will begin at 8.30 am IST (3 am GMT). Do join us to find out if New Zealand have any fight left in them.

The post-Lunch session is set to begin. The English players make their way out on the middle and take the field. Followed by Tom Latham and Will Young who walk out with their swords. It will be Stuart Broad to start with the ball now. Here we go...
... Day 2, Session 2 ...
England are dictating the Test match here. First, Ben Stokes makes a solid call to declare the innings at 435 runs, it also came after Joe Root made his 150 runs. In spite of losing wickets at regular intervals earlier in the morning session, England cruised along really well and racked up 120 runs. Later on, with the new ball in hand, James Anderson continued on his merry way. After becoming the number 1 Test bowler, James Anderson did not waste time to get into the wicket's column here as he struck in his very first over. Soon, he added one more to his tally and the hosts are certainly on the back foot here. The post-Lunch session would be very crucial for the Kiwis. Will they be able to provide with a solid counter-punch. To find out, do join us at 6.10 am IST (12.40 am GMT).
New Zealand are off to a horrendous start with the bat. They lost 2 wickets in the 7 overs that they batted so far. Tom Latham seems to be in good touch so far. Will Young is comparatively new at the crease and would be hoping to stick around for long. The Kiwis certainly have their task cut out here. Looking at the evidence of England's innings, it was clear that the batters do struggle early on, but the conditions only get better as the day progresses. England were off to a similar start with the bat and two certain players took the momentum away from the hosts. The Kiwis though would hope their batters can step-up and give a run for their money.
It has been all about England in the morning session on Day 2, first they dominated with the bat and later challenged with the ball in hand as well. New Zealand find themselves in a spot of bother, as they are trailing by 423 runs.
