The follow-on was enforced, the Lankans showed great fight, the likes of Mendis, Dhananjaya de Silva and Dinesh Chandimal really batted well. Lanka just were not upto the mark in this game, we expected them to perform a lot better after how they played in the first game but they were quite under par. First, their bowlers were just not uto the mark. The Kiwis scored close to 600 in no time with Williamson and Nicholls scoring double tons. That batted in visitors out of the game and in reply, Sri Lanka were very poor with the bat. Except for Dimuth Karunaratne, no one showed any fight and they were bowled out for well below 200. Matt Henry and Michael Bracewell were the stars with the ball for the hosts.

It is Tim Southee who leads his side off the field! This is his first series win as New Zealand skipper and it is very well-deserved as the Kiwis were dominant throughout this game. Lanka on the other hand, can be happy with how they performed with the bat in this innings. They did not just surrender like they did in the first innings but made the Kiwis work hard for the wickets. They would have loved to take it into Day 5 but that was not the case.

A wicket right at the stroke of TEA. It was going well for Sri Lanka all according to the plan but the short ball plan which New Zealand opted for right from the start of the day gives them the reward. Sri Lanka batted well throughout. Both weathered the storm and rotated the strike. The partnership was blossoming but not for so long as Blair Tickner got his third wicket. Tim Southee rotated his bowlers well. New Zealand came close quite a few times but the batters survive somehow. Although the wicket of Nishan Madushka will give them a lot of boosts as they still lead by 98 runs and need 4 wickets to win.

...Day 4, Session 2...

New Zealand will not be very disappointed with the session, especially after the wicket right at the end of Chandimal. They though began the session brilliantly where they got rid of Mathews and Mendis quickly but then came a superb fightback by Dhananjaya de Silva and Dinesh Chandimal. Both played their shots and scored briskly. The two added over 100 and got up their fifties. Just as it seemed Sri Lanka would enter Lunch 4 down, Tickner struck and got rid of Chandimal. Lanka are happy to play their shots and New Zealand on the other hand, won't mind. They are sticking to the short ball ploy and they did get three wickets today from the shorter length. Will the pattern continue? We will find out.

This game seems to be heading in just the one direction and that is a New Zealand win. If Lanka really want to salvage something out of this game, they need some help from the weather and also a marathon effort from couple of their batters. Their second innings has gone well so far but there's still a long way to go. Can they dominate the day's play?

... DAY 4, SESSION 1 ...

The day though as all about the Kiwis! They managed to bundle Sri Lanka out for a very low score courtesy Matt Henry and Michael Bracewell. They then enforced the follow-on but Sri Lanka have batted well in their second essay. Can they continue the good work or will New Zealand yet again dominate? We will find out. New Zealand on the other hand, were quite disciplined with their bowling. They hit the right lines and lengths majority of the times. The key will be to remain patient. The wicket is not offering a lot now to the bowlers and the key will be to remain cool and calm and just continue what they are doing.

That is a good effort from the Lankans! They have shown good grit and the hunger to stay out in the middle in the second innings. However, they are still a long, long way behind in the game but for now, they have done quite okay. The session though did not begin all that well as they lost Oshada Fernando early. Mendis and Dimuth Karunaratne then batted solidly. Dimuth Karunaratne got to yet another half ton before he fell. Mathews and Mendis though have continued the good work. Mendis has crossed his half ton but his team will need a lot more runs from him and they will hope Mathews can hang around.
