After slumping to 65/6 in 11.4 overs, lower-order batsmen Stuart Poynter and George Dockrell added 77 runs for the sixth wicket to push Ireland’ total past the 100-run mark.

After opting to bat first, Ireland lost Kevin O’Brien to Mujeeb ur Rahman for five in the fifth over followed by two quick wickets in the form of Andy Balbernie – taken by Karim Janat – for five and skipper Paul Stirling for 23 taken by Nabi.

Nabi struck soon after the powerplay again removing Simi Singh for nine – stumped by Shafiqullah. Stuart Thompson made 18 before becoming Rashid Khan’s first victim of the night in the 12 over. a ball later, Rashid trapped Shane Getkate for a two-ball duck.

Poynter and Dockrell then put their heads down to slowly rebuild for Ireland. Poynter’s 31 came off 28 balls with the help of two fours and a six while Dockrell made 34 off 28 with the help of two fours and a six.

For Afghanistan, Nabi finished with 2/16 in his four overs while Rashid claimed 2/21 in his four. Janat and Rahman picked one wicket each.
