Australia reached 123 for nine at stumps after dismissing England for 172 on the opening day of the first Test here on Friday.

At the draw of stumps, Nathan Lyon (3) was giving company to Brendan Doggett (0).

Pace spearhead Mitchell Starc Bumrah (7/58) took a five-wicket haul to emerge as the most successful bower for the hosts. His victims included openers Zak Crawley (0) and Ben Duckett (21), Joe Root (0), Ben Stokes (6), Jamie Smith (33), Gus Atkinson (1) and Mark Wood (0).

Pacer Brendan Doggett (2/27) and Cameron Green (1/1) shared three wickets among themselves.

In reply, Australia lost the wicket of nine players.
