Bangladesh vs West Indies: Shakib Al Hasan double lifts hosts before lunch

Two wickets from Shakib Al Hasan  in his first over on return to lead Bangladesh gave the home team a massive lift after they were bowled out for 324, and sent West Indies into lunch on day two of the first Test on 54/3.

Shakib brought himself on in the over after left-arm spinner Taijul Islam snapped a 29-run opening stand by trapping Kieran Powell lbw for 14, and with his first delivery bowled Shai Hope for 1. Looking to drive against the turn, Hope was bowled. Mushfiqur Rahim then dropped a catch off Sunil Ambris, but Shakib lifted the mood when he had Kraig Brathwaite edging to first slip as the over ended with two wickets.

From 29 without loss, West Indies had slipped to 31/3 inside two overs. Ambris (5*) and Roston Chase (19*) ensured there were no more hiccups into the lunch break.

Earlier, the left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican took the last two Bangladesh wickets for the addition of nine runs to the overnight total. Ambris got the debutant Nayeem Hasan for 26 and Mustafizur Rahman for 0 to finish with 4/62. Taijul was not out on 39.
