IND A vs NZ A: Shaw, Vijay and Vihari hit fifties on final day of draw

Prithvi Shaw and Murali Vijay – potentially India s next Test opening pair – hit contrasting fifties as India A drew their tour opener against New Zealand A at Mount Maunganui on Monday.

Shaw, 18, followed his first-innings 62 with 50 from 53 balls, inclusive of eight fours and a six, to dominate an opening stand of 74 with Vijay, who made 60 from 113 balls before he was last out at 161/3 in the 40th over.

Mayank Agarwal (41) was the other wicket to fall, as skipper Ajinkya Rahane (41*) and Hanuma Vihari (51*) put on 86 for the fourth wicket to close out a draw. Vihari, who made 86 in the India A s first innings, hit three fours and three sixes in his 63-ball effort. India closed on 247/3 after 65 overs in response to New Zealand A s 458/9 declared.

India had made 467/8 declared in their first innings, with Shaw, Agarwal, Vihari and Parthiv Patel hitting fifties. Vijay, recalled to India s Test squad for the tour of Australia, made 28 from 64 balls in the first innings.
