Shardul Thakur has become India’s third debutant in as many Tests after the hosts included him in their XI for the second Test versus West Indies  in Hyderabad.

Thakur was named in India’s squad of 12 on Thursday, and at the toss on Friday India captain Virat Kohli confirmed that the Mumbai pacer had been given his maiden Test cap with Mohammed Shami rested.

Thakur, 26, has played five ODIs and seven T20Is in an India career that began in August 2017. In first-class cricket, the Mumbai seamer has 188 wickets from 55 matches.

West Indies left out Keemo Paul and Sherman Lewis with regular skipper Jason Holder and Jomel Warrican back in the side.

India won the first Test at Rajkot by an innings and 272 runs, their biggest Test win ever.
