Spurred by a superb partnership between David Warner and Manish Pandey, Sunrisers Hyderabad have put themselves on track for a big total against hosts Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in match 41 of IPL 2019.

From 63/1 at the first strategic timeout, SRH scored 75 runs between overs eight and 16 to set up a final surge in the death overs.

At the second strategic time, SRH were 138/2.

When the first strategy break was taken, Warner was 33 off 27 balls and Pandey 28 from 13. The eighth over was a quiet one, with six runs conceded by Dwayne Bravo. In the ninth over, Warner swatted Ravindra Jadeja for six. Pandey took a cue and in Imran Tahir’s next over he lofted the legspinner over long-on for six more.

Bravo conceded 12 runs off the 11th over, with Pandey hitting him for two fours. The second, a swat past a diving short fine leg, brought up Pandey’s half-century in just 25 balls. Warner followed Pandey to his own fifty in the next over, off a more sedate 39 deliveries.

Pandey moved to 58 with a four off the first ball of the 13th over bowled by Jadeja, but moments later the breakthrough came for CSK.

On 57, Warner swung at Harbhajan and missed the ball for MS Dhoni to effect a very swift stumping. Dhoni did not release any emotion, instead he raised his left hand in signal that Warner was out. Sure enough, the verdict came from the square leg umpire and Warner was on his way for a fine innings. He and Pandey put on 115 in 12 overs.

Vijay Shankar hit Tahir for six over long-on, and when the second strategic timeout was taken SRH had reached 138/2.
