Match 40 of IPL 2019 has begun with Delhi Capitals opting to field against hosts Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

So far, Ajinkya Rahane had driven Rajasthan’s innings with a superb fifty.

At the end of the Powerplay overs, RR were 52/1 and Rahane was on 40 off 25 deliveries. He raised his half-century in 32 balls with a four off Chris Morris and then in the tenth over, he hit two fours off left-arm spinner Axar Patel. First came a superb shot inside out over extra cover and then a delicate glance wide of short fine leg.

At the other end, RR skipper Steve Smith was also batting very efficiently. Consecutive boundaries off Amit Mishra in the 11th over saw Smith move to 34 and raised the team’s 100. The over ended with the 100-run partnership between Rahane and Smith being brought up.

In the 12th over, bowled by part-timer Sherfane Rutherford, Smith smacked three fours in a row: a glance to fine leg, a heave past midwicket and a slice past point.

In the 13th over, Rahane walked right across the stumps and paddled Morris for four and followed that up with a push for four more over mid-off to move to 81 off 46 balls. Smith then reached his half-century off his 31st ball faced with a single to mid-off.

First ball of the 14th over, Smith miscued to Morris at long-off. The Australian made 50 off 32 balls, with eight fours. With Rahane, Smith put on 130.

After 15 overs, when the second strategic time-out was taken, Rajasthan had reached 150/2. Rahane was on 88 off 51 balls and Ben Stokes on eight from seven.
