After taking a lead of 188 runs over Tripura, Assam played in a brisk manner in their second innings and set a target of 428 runs before reducing Tripura to 68/4 on day three of round two of the Ranji Trophy 2018-19 at MBB Stadium, Agartala on Wednesday.

Starting the day at 5/0 in their second innings, Assam openers Rishav Das and Parviz Aziz added 65 runs between them for the opening wicket before both of them departed in successive overs. Aziz was removed by Rana Datta for 24 while Das was scalped by Harmeet Singh for 38.

Gokul Sharma’s early departure for seven, dented Assam. However, youngster Riyan Parag and Shibsankar Roy put on 71 runs for the fourth wicket. Roy departed for 39 to Mura Singh while Parag was out for 80. Wasiqur Rahman made a handy contribution of 37 as Assam declared their innings at 239/6, setting Tripura a huge target.

Arup Das, who had claimed five wickets in the first innings, removed opener UU Bose for five followed by the wicket of BB Ghosh by Ranjeet Mali for 10. Tripura went on to lose two more wicket before the close of play.
