Ranji Trophy 2018-19, Elite Group A: Maharashtra 86 for 3 in reply to Saurashtra’s 398

Anupam Sanklecha picked up a five-wicket-haul as Saurashtra were dismissed for a first-innings total of 398. Aarpit Vasavada played a crucial knock of 62 and was aided by Kamlesh Makvana’s 42 off 126 as both batsmen steered the innings. In reply, Maharashtra scored 86 runs but lost three wickets in the process.

Resuming the second day of the Group A tie of the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy on 269 for 3, overnight batsman Vasavada held the innings, even though his partner Sheldon Jackson was the first wicket to fall to Samad Fallah. Prerak Mankad was dealt a second-ball duck by Vasavada to leave Saurashtra at 283 for 5. It was then that the side rebuilt through a defiant 88-run-lead stand between Vasavada and Makvana with the two batsmen scoring 16 boundaries within themselves. Sanklecha went through the middle-lower order, including the wicket of Vasavada, en route to his 11th First-Class five-wicket-haul.

Maharashtra lost opener Jay Pandey for 15, and No. 3 batsman Naushad Sheikh in a span of one run. Kedar Jadhav and Chirag Khurana took the score to 86 before the opener was snared by Dharmendrasinh Jadeja as the day’s play ended. Jadhav remained unbeaten on 38 off 65 deliveries and declared his intent with five brilliant boundaries.
