Resuming the day on 243 for 6, Vidarbha were lifted by a timely half-century from Akshay Karnewar, who struck nine boundaries and four sixes during his 136-ball stay. Even as wickets tumbled around him, Karnewar single-handedly took Vidarbha beyond 300 before he was the last wicket to fall – to Yadav – who picked up his First-Class career’s third five-wicket-haul.

Railways’ opening pair of Singh and Prashant Gupta added 69 runs for the first wicket before Aditya Sarwate got the breakthrough for Vidarbha, removing Gupta for 36 (including four fours and a six). Nitin Bhille and Singh added a strokeful 66 runs for the second wicket before Akshay Wakhare trapped Bhille out LBW to bring the day to a close.

Brief Score: Railways 170 for 2 (Pratham Singh 84*, Nitin Bhille 37), trail Vidarbha 331 all-out (Akshay Karnewar 94; Avinash Yadav 5 for 78) by 161 runs.
