Ranji Trophy 2018-19, Elite Group A: Top order fires Saurashtra to 269 for 3 against Maharashtra

Half-centuries from Saurashtra’s top three scored half-centuries to lead them to 269 for 3 against Maharashtra at Golf Club Ground in Nasik on Friday. On the opening day of Round 6 of the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy Group A match, Maharashtra won the toss and opted to bowl, but the call backfired as Saurashtra’s batsmen made merry.

Harvik Desai and Snell Patel opened the innings and put on 98 runs before the partnership was broken. Anupam Sanklecha provided the breakthrough for Maharashtra. Their hopes of getting another quick wicket was dashed by Desai and new man in, Vishvaraj Jadeja as the two combined to put 148 runs for the second wicket.

Both batsmen reached their respective half-centuries and scored 28 boundaries and one six between themselves. Jadeja was the second wicket to fall, to Sanklecha and miss out on a century agonisingly by three runs. Ashay Patel was rewarded for some relentless bowling with the wicket of Patel seven overs before play. At 246 for 3, Sheldon Jackson and Aarpit Vasavada played out the remaining overs without any damage.

Brief Score: Saurashtra 269 for 3 (Vishvaraj Jadeja 97, Snell Patel 84; Anupam Sanklecha 2 for 84) against Maharashtra.
