Ranji Trophy 2018-19, Elite Group B: Andhra steady in reply to Bengal’s 300

An unbeaten half-century from Gnaneswara Rao and a productive hand of 43 from Jyothi Sai Krishna led Andhra to 108 for 2, trailing Bengal by 192 runs, in their Group B match of the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy Round 7 tie at Vizag on Sunday.

After the early wicket of Prasanth Kumar for a duck, bowled by Mukesh Kumar, Rao and Krishna added 104 runs for the second wicket to lead a strong reply from Andhra. The century stand was broken by Sahabaz Ahmed who removed Krishna seven short of his half-century with the batsman having scored two boundaries and a six. However, Rao was still going strong at the other end on 64 with nine fours and a maximum.

Earlier, resuming their innings at an overnight score of 194 for 6, Bengal’s last four wickets added a further 106 runs to be bowled out for 300 in their first innings. KV Sasikanth picked up his maiden First-Class five-wicket haul, including the wickets of overnight batsmen Writtick Chatterjee and Pradipta Pramanik.
