Ranji Trophy 2018-19, Elite Group B: Himachal one down after Pankaj Jaiswal takes five against Andhra

Himachal Pradesh’s Pankaj Jaiswal picked up his second First-Class five-wicket-haul as his 5 for 50 limited Andhra to a first-innings total of 173. After Himachal opted to bowl, Jaiswal went through Andhra’s middle order to leave them struggling at 136 for 9 before Manish Golamaru scored a crucial 38 to ensure a total in excess of 150.

After losing opener Prasanth Kumar early, Gnaneswara Rao and Jyothi Sai Krishna put on 48 runs for the second wicket. Krishna scored a half-century but the batsmen around him started tumbling. He batted long enough to score 74 with the help of nine boundaries but he too was done in by a wonderful delivery from Jaiswal. Arpit Guleria and allrounder Rishi Dhawan chipped in with two wickets each to end the innings inside 200.

In reply, Himachal lost opener Raghav Dhawan for 9 with 22 runs on the board. Prashant Chopra and Praveen Thakur remained unbeaten on 32 and 10 respectively to take the total to 51 for 1 at stumps, trailing by 122 runs.

Brief Scores: Himachal Pradesh 51/1 (Prashant Chopra 32*) trail Andhra 173 all out (Jyothi Sai Krishna 74, Manish Golamaru 32; Pankaj Jaiswal 5 for 50) by 122 runs.
