Ranji Trophy 2018-19, Elite Group B: Kalsi unbeaten ton swells Himachal’s lead over Andhra

A century to middle-order batsman Ankit Kalsi and a fifty each to allrounder Rishi Dhawan and opening batsman Prashant Chopra led Himachal Pradesh to 320 for 5 against Andhra on Day 2 of their 2018-19 Ranji Trophy Group B tie at Nadaun on Saturday. Having bowled out Andhra for 173 on the opening day, Himachal have extended their first-innings lead to 147 runs.

Resuming the second day on 51 for 1, wicketkeeper batsman Praveen Thakur was the first wicket to go down on the day, cleaned up by Cheepurapalli Stephen for a 63-ball 17. Chopra and Nikhil Gangta scored 20 off 63 before Shoaib Md Khan removed him to leave Himachal on 122 for 4. From there, Himachal were revived by Dhawan and Chopra, who added 143 runs for the fifth wicket.

Looking set for a century, Dhawan was unfortunately run out for 76, but Himachal did not let their foot off the gas, as Kalsi and Amit Kumar added an unbeaten 57 runs for the sixth wicket with Kalsi registering his second First-Class century.

Brief Scores: Himachal 320 for 5 (Ankit Kalsi 103*, Rishi Dhawan 76; Bandaru Ayyappa 2 for 83), lead Andhra 173 all out by 147 runs.
