Ranji Trophy 2018-19, Elite Group B: Markande, Anmolpreet get Punjab going against Hyderabad

Anmolpreet Singh score 85 and along with captain Mandeep Singh, guided Punjab to 202 for 4 against Hyderabad during their Group B Ranji Trophy match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal. After dismissing Hyderabad for 317 in their first innings with Mayank Markande picking up six wickets, Anmolpreet and Mandeep added 71 runs for the fourth wicket as Punjab trail by 115 runs.

Punjab were dealt a couple of early blows by Hyderabad, ones that saw them lose their first two wickets rather cheaply. Shubman Gill scored 10 off 12 before being dismissed by Ravi Teja, while Jiwanjot Singh endured another failure, leaving Punjab at 18 for 2. Anmolpreet and Sanvir Singh came together for a 77-run partnership to steady the innings before the stand was broken by Mehidy Hasan. Punjab benefitted from Anmolpreet and Mandeep stitching another valuable partnership before the former was dismissed 15 short of a century having struck 12 fours and two sixes during his 149-ball knock.

Mandeep and Gurkeerat Singh Mann then added unbeaten 36 runs for Punjab, seeing them over the 200-run mark.  Earlier, Hyderabad could add 77 runs to their overnight score of 240 for 7 before being bowled out with Markande leading the way with 6 for 84. The innings comprised a useful hand of 28 from Hasan down the order.
