Ranji Trophy Elite Group B

Himachal Pradesh are left with a stiff task in their chase of 376 against Delhi in their Ranji Trophy 2018-19, Elite Group B, Round 2 clash at Feroz Shah Kotla. At the close of play on Day 3, they had lost their captain Prashant Chopra, ending the day at 44/1 in 19 overs, needing 332 runs more to win.

Chopra was bowled by Ishant Sharma on 1 to give his team an early success as Delhi aim to start their campaign with a win. Himachal were bowled out for for 223 in reply to Delhi’s first innings total of 317 earlier in the day. The hosts had a lead of 94 runs and riding on Dhruv Shorey’s century, declared their second innings at 281.

Openers Gautam Gambhir and Hiten Dalal gave Delhi a bright start, adding 64 runs before Mayank Dagar removed the latter. Gambhir fell one short of his fifty as he was run out on 49. Captain Nitish Rana struck four fours in his 46-ball 32 before becoming Dagar’s second victim.

Shorey played a composed knock, hitting 10 fours and two sixes in his unbeaten 106 off 177. Dagar finished with 3/70 as Delhi declared after stretching their lead to 375.

On paper, all three results are possible but Delhi look in much stronger position. At the close of play, opener Priyanshu Khanduri (22*) and Ankush Bains (16*) were the two unbeaten batsmen.
